RX Policy

Our prescription sunglasses are custom-made to your exact prescription. Every pair is individually crafted, quality checked, and shipped directly to you. Here's everything you need to know — before, during, and after your order.

How It Works

RIA prescription orders go through a quick eligibility verification before you order — this ensures your prescription is a fit for the frame styles you're interested in and that your lenses are made correctly the first time.

Submit your prescription for verification →

Once verified, our team will confirm which frame styles are available for your prescription and walk you through next steps. Ordering is then completed directly on the product page.

Production & Fulfillment

  • Production typically takes 15–30 business days. Each pair is custom-made and individually quality checked to your prescription before it ships.
  • All prescription orders include complimentary FedEx Express shipping.
  • RX lenses are slightly thicker and heavier than non-prescription lenses to accommodate the prescription. This is normal and expected with custom optical lenses.

Not sure about fit before committing to prescription lenses? Try the non-prescription version of a frame first — non-RX orders include free shipping and free returns, so there's zero risk. Once you've confirmed the fit, come back and order your prescription pair with confidence.

Cancellations

You may cancel your RX order within 24 hours of placing it. To request a cancellation, email team@riaeyewear.com with the subject line: RX Order Cancellation Request and our team will take it from there.

Due to the custom nature of prescription lens production, we are unable to cancel RX orders after 24 hours.

Returns & Refunds

Because every pair is custom-made to your prescription, our return policy works a little differently — but we want to make sure you always have a path forward.

If you decide your RX order isn't right for you — including fit, style, lens color, or personal preference — you can return it within 30 days of delivery. Items must be returned in good condition.

Within that window, you may choose one of the following options:

Option 1 — Partial Refund
Receive a refund to your original payment method, less a $95 custom lens fee. This fee partially covers the cost of producing your prescription lenses, which cannot be reused or resold.

Option 2 — Full Store Credit
Receive full store credit with no fee deducted. Store credit never expires and can be used toward any future purchase.

To initiate a return, email team@riaeyewear.com and we'll provide a return label and walk you through the process.

Prescription Errors & Lab Remakes

If something doesn't feel right with your lenses, we want to know — and we'll make it right.

Please submit your case through our RX Issue & Lab Check page. You'll be prompted to upload photos so our team can see exactly what's going on and assess the issue as quickly as possible.

In confirmed cases of lab error or manufacturing defect:

  • We will remake your lenses at no cost to you
  • No fees will be deducted
  • Our team will guide you through every step

If your lenses are reviewed and confirmed to be made correctly to your prescription but you're still experiencing discomfort, we'll help you figure out the next steps. In these cases, the return is handled as a preference-based return — the same refund or store credit options above will apply.

Please ensure your prescription is accurate before submitting your order. RIA is not responsible for lenses manufactured correctly to an incorrectly submitted prescription.

Warranty

Prescription eyewear is covered under our standard Warranty Policy. RIA prescription eyewear includes a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects starting from your purchase date.

Manufacturing defects covered under warranty include:

  • Broken or malfunctioning hinges
  • Frames that crack or snap under normal use
  • Lenses that pop out or don't fit securely in the frame
  • Peeling, cracking, or flaking of the lens or frame coating
  • Defective hardware, including screws and nose pads

Replacement Lenses

Prescription lenses require precise mounting to ensure proper fit, alignment, and optical performance. For this reason:

  • Replacement lenses must be mounted in the frame at our lab
  • We do not sell lenses intended for customer self-installation
  • This ensures the best optical results and prevents damage to your frames or lenses

If you need replacement lenses, email team@riaeyewear.com and our RX team will be happy to assist.

Adjusting to Wraparound Prescription Lenses

Some of our frames — specifically Tempo, Versa, Vantage, and Reflex — feature a wraparound or curved lens design. Prescription lenses for these styles are engineered differently than standard flat-frame lenses to account for the curvature and face angle of the frame. For some wearers, especially those new to performance prescription eyewear, this can mean a brief visual adjustment period while your eyes calibrate to the new optics.

This is completely normal and typically resolves on its own. The best approach is to ease in gradually — wear your new frames for short stretches at first, in relaxed, everyday settings, and increase your wear time over the following days as things start to feel more natural. Most wearers find their stride within a couple of weeks.

If things still don't feel right after two weeks of regular wear, we want to hear about it. Submit your case through our RX Issue & Lab Check page and our team will take a close look at the optics to confirm everything was made to spec.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept HSA/FSA cards?
We do not currently accept HSA/FSA cards directly at checkout. However, we can issue an itemized invoice upon request that you can submit to your HSA/FSA provider for reimbursement. Email team@riaeyewear.com to request one.

Can I get an itemized receipt for insurance?
Yes — email team@riaeyewear.com with your order number and we'll send one over.

Why do RX lenses take 15–30 business days to produce?
Each lens is custom-designed and manufactured to your exact prescription using digital free-form surfacing — a precision process that sculpts the lens surface with computer-controlled equipment rather than standard molds. This results in sharper clarity, reduced distortion, and better peripheral vision, especially in performance and wrap-style frames. The time is necessary to ensure every pair meets our standards before it leaves the lab.

Will my lenses be heavier than non-prescription lenses?
Yes, slightly. RX lenses are thicker to accommodate the prescription, which adds a small amount of weight. This is normal and expected with custom optical lenses.
